Style Icon: Paulette from Legally Blonde

Some style icons are just not recognized by the audience. Take a quick glance at the story of fashion and you will realize how people normally don’t detect a true style icon. The Nanny was one of them, and she was once named “tacky”, but nowadays she’s a total trendsetter. When looking for some of this inspiring people I was thinking about movies that I like, series that I watch or even music that I hear. Devil Wears Prada? Cool, but not unique. Sex and the City? Amazing but not breathtaking. SClub7? Awful and awful.

As you can see in some of my Style Icons post, I always try to give recognition to those who have a great style but aren’t really recognized. Today I saw Legally Blonde, and while most of the girls think that Elle Woods is a super stylish Barbie girl, I do not consider her a style icon. Go to LA and you are going to see tons of girls dresses up like her. But how about Paulette? The lovely manicurist from the movie that functions as Elle Woods BFF. Let me tell you something, Paulette is a true style icon. From the moment that she did the Bend & Snap and broke the mailman nose I felt in love with her. Look at her: She’s always smiling (that’s the best accessory every), she wears bright colors and she has curves. Now tell me: who is more stylish: Elle Woods or Paulette? You decide. My answer would be Paulette. 

Wear PJs as formal pants.

Nowadays everything is allowed in terms of fashion. People can easily go out naked and people would applaud them the bravery. Last week I was talking with a friend and I told him that I could go to a fashion show wearing boxers, blazers, shirt, and combat boots; getting as a result tons of streetstyle pictures and many scary-stalking looks. After saying that I started thinking; does the piece creates an outfit, or does the outfit create a piece? I guess my answer is that the outfit create a piece, and I don’t really care what other people say. Think about it: you can have an amazing and lovely shirt, but if you combine it in a shitty way then the shirt looks shitty. On the other hand, if you grab a granny shirt full of kitties and pair it with a leather jacket and amazing shoes; then the result will be fantastic. 

So last week I went to the anniversary of a Mexican club. It was a VIP party to celebrate the place that has seen me dancing on the tables, vomiting on the bathrooms, and fighting like a black ghetto woman with a bottle on my hand as an arm. I mean those are amazing experiences, so I couldn’t say no. My only problem was that it was a pajama themed party. At first, I thought that it was going to be awful, but then I said “This is a challenge, and I will wear whatever I like to the party.” As I got ready, I decided to pair some cool pj pants with a skulled shirt, black bow tie, velvet blazer, and nice black shoes. My outfit was brilliant and when I saw myself with the pajamas I felt in love. For my surprise, when I arrived most of the guys were wearing: Nothing! They wore their PJs but their TRUE PJs. They didn’t combine them or anything. They were ready to party and then hop into their beds. Some of them even decided to wear only boxer briefs, because I guess that’s how they sleep. I felt like Cady Heron arriving to the Halloween dressed up as a zombie ex-bride. No one told me the slutty memo! Anyway, I was the most formal and cool-looking guy at the party and I prove myself something: the outfit does create a piece. Also whenever you dance in pajamas you feel more comfortable, free, and your balls dance with you with the rhythm of the music.

I guess that one of the most expected movies of this year is “The Great Gatsby”. I remember the first time I read the book. I was 13 years old and I was looking for new things. That´s the kind of things that you do when you are a teenager and your life gets a bit boring. I decided to read the book, because I heard that it was a picture perfect of the decadent American society. Whenever you are young and you hear those words you start thinking about a lot of things. Now it´s awesome to see that there´s gonna be a picture (a new one). When I first saw the huge production surrounding the movie I was astonished. The cast, the director, the music and PRADA! Yes, customs made by Prada! Am I in heaven or what? I´ve always said that there´s not a better way to showcase the work of a designer that in a movie. Think about it, you are telling a story in which your clothes can create an atmosphere, a drama and a climax. Now it´ll be amazing to see the Gatsby story with clothes by Prada.

Anyway I decided to create a post with beautiful images as a preview of the movie because I HAVE 5 DOUBLE PASSES FOR THE MEXICAN GREAT GASTBY PREMIERE NEXT TUESDAY MAY 28^TH! How amazing is that? Dress Cool, Be Cool.

Last week I had to do my weekly article for Style&Trend Mexico. I was thinking what do guys want to read, and I got to the conclusion that most guys just don´t want to think about what they are going to be wearing. They just need a clear guide and inspiration in order to dress cool. While looking at armed outfits, I realized that most of the outfits are boring and lame. They are like “Combine a cute shirt, with black shoes, and a blazer”. That´s B-O-R-I-N-G!!!! We need to spice things up so I decided to grab some of my favorite Hollywood characters and create looks around them. Some looks that makes us feel like if we are a Goonie or a white rapper with a killer style.  Feel free to post comments, or Twits saying which was your favorite look.

They are not just watches, or even accessories, they are true forms of art in which you can play with the way you read time. That sounds crazy right, but it´s true. The brand is starting to create cult models in order to give people truly inspiring models that define their personality. I ordered the X LED WATCH which looks like bracelet, until you turn it on and the blue leds show you the hour. Cool right? I think it looks like a giant black stud, and that´s perfect. Obviously you need to study your watch in order to know how to read the hour, but that´s the fun part. You can but online any model and they send it to your house. Awesome!

Beauty Friday: Vichy Normaderm Stick

Finally Friday it’s here! It’s time for us to plan our weekend, go out, have a nice dinner and maybe get a little bit wild.  No matter what you do, the most important thing about Fridays is that you have to look your best and dress to impress. Whether you are going to a party or just to a romantic date with your beloved one, I guess that you want to look red carpet ready. But, what happens when you wake up and you see that there’s an awful pimple on your face (usually on the most visible spots such as nose, lip or forehead)? You instantly start crying. That’s my answer and let me confess that it happens to me a lot. My luck is lovely, because whenever I have a big event or a shooting, my skin decides to go back to puberty and develop new pimples. For me it’s like the end of the world, because I feel like people is staring at the horrible spot instead of looking into my eyes. Maybe I exaggerate, but you I’m sure you know that feeling. My boiling point was when I had the Mercedes Benz shooting last March, and that day a huuuuuuge mountain appeared on my forehead. I panicked! Almost cried, and then decided to do something. The answer was to stop paying attention to my pimple because the makeup department was going to resolve the case. After a couple of minutes with the makeup artist, my skin looked amazing and perfect for the shooting but I asked myself “I need a makeup artist in my daily life. How can I afford that?”.

After a lot of investigation I found the Vichy Normaderm Stick that was the perfect answer for all of my problems. For me, it was like finding a mobile makeup artist that can go with you to any place and fix your skin in just minutes.
